Other software forums suck...
this is a real community, most other forums are just lots of one stop users looking for quick answers instead of doing the work themselves.

I hear ya!!! Whenever I see someone do a drive-by homework cop-out on gamedev.net, I always feel a slightly abused. Perhaps a little Guns n' Roses is apt:
"If my intentions are misunderstood
please be kind
I've done all I should
...
It's not a question of
whether my heart is true
...
Ask yourself
why would I choose
to prostitute myself"
From Prostitute, on the Chinese Democracy album. :)

GDNet is the New York of forums to me. It has it's share of assholes, but said assholes seem to really know their stuff. I wonder if it's just a personality one develops after so many years in the industry? [lol]
Really? I find that people don't bust out the asshole guns unless the poster in question hits a hot button. A little bit of observation and critical thinking reveals what those hot buttons are and how to avoid them. Things like the "idea guy" (selfish, overinflated self-importance, talking down), the "do my homework please" (laziness, unwillingness to learn), and the "na na can't hear you, I'm right you're wrong," (unwillingness to learn). People are rarely attacked for simply being ignorant.
Of course, there's also those that view directness and confidence as asshole behavior, but I'm not so sure that its reasonable to sugar-coat things for people who can't deal with criticism.

Allow me to give this piece of knowledge to you: New York != New Jersey.
Don't worry, to the rest of the country, you're all ignorant assholes.
Is one of you two referring to me (who's from DC), NYorkers (who are now synomymous New Jersey), or all US citizens? For clarity of course?

I think he's getting at what him and I both got at before, which is the predisposition of American internet users to assume all other Internet users are also American without bothering to read the location field on the profile...
The years have aged us all into a more mature community and those that have stuck around have made it easier for new people to come in and feel welcome. It's an aging process I'm glad we've been able to stick around to see happen! [smile]

Money? Guilt? Both?
Is there anything wrong with people choosing their fucking way on life?

It is only a metaphor, and has nothing to do with sexual activity. :)
I have known quite a few prostitutes (I WASN'T A CLIENT!!) from working at a store downtown, and I respect them. They're humans, and they have interests and emotions just like everyone else. I don't believe they chose to be prostitutes though... most of them weren't even adults yet. (That fact really boils my blood)
