There seems to be nothing out there about how to make a simple, 2D game that actually compiles and runs correctly. I use Dev C++ and it works just fine for me, and I don''t use the Borland command line compiler because I have no idea how to use it. Well anyway, does anyone know how to get some simple 2D game stuff...?

Try Ian Parberry''s DirectX 7.0 book. I read the whole thing, and I can say that it is the best place to start. Don''t get the one about DirectX 8.0 because that is just a smaller version of the 7.0 book.

This book takes you step by step through a whole game. The game is not the best, but you learn a great deal about many different topics.

You can actually download the EXE files for all the chapters on the web.

That being said, you should know C++ fairly well if you want to get that book.

I''m kinda strapped for cash (I''m a sophomore in high school), so I can''t really afford to go out and buy VC++ and tons of books (even though I would like to =D ). Well whatever, I''ll just stick with my text based (gotta love ''em) games until I find something that I feel confident enough to program with.
