Can anyone help me on how to implement a simple AI that will chase my character in j2me game?

Codes and suggestions are very much welcome

Steering behaviours are usually the first place to start.

See this site for the basic explanation of what they are and how they work. In particular, the pursuit behaviour.

Did you try what swiftcoder suggested? Why didn't it work for you?

Well my game is something like pacman that also have "ghosts" alike in my game that chases the character..

The algorithms that Pac Man uses are well known. A quick google search should turn up plenty. From there, you can tweak it to fit your own game.
