Nintendo's E3 press conference was yesterday. They showed a lot of games but what stole the show was the 3DS.
From a development standpoint, what do you think of it? Are you excited, apathtic or somewhere in between?
What's your opinion of the 3DS

My characteristic mixture of mild technical interest and complete inability to see a use for the thing in my life. I've never owned a handheld video game system, and I haven't particularly felt the urge to play one since I was 13 or so (original GameBoy, FYI).
The 3DS looks... like a DS. The 3D screen sounds cool, though, and as soon as they're in stock I'll go check one out at the local Nintendo World. But I know I'm never buying one, and probably never playing one. But it's still cool.

No smartphone?

You regard a smartphone as primarily a handheld video game system? Odd. Personally I find that the BlackBerry sucks for playing games more complex than Tetris or Brick Breaker (and even Brick Breaker will sometimes stutter on a BB 8900 Curve!)
(See what I did there? [smile])
Development standpoint-- I don't care all that much because it'll probably be a light consideration at best.
User standpoint-- I want one. Bad.

The 3DS looks awesome. one thing that sounded great was that they'll be releasing 3D movies from Disney and others for it, which actually makes a lot of sense to me. The 3D pictures is also really cool. For gameplay it's a plus, but I'd just as soon play the same games on a normal DS.
I don't own a DS, but this system makes me want to jump into it.
The game lineup is also pretty stellar.

I'm curious to see if I can see a 3DS in 3D. I've had eye alignment issues since I can remember, which basically results in my right eye being dominant. Thus I don't really see in 3D (or have depth perception). Any type of stereoscopic methods I've seen don't work (even with the classes on).
The sudden switch to everything 3d in fact scares me a little, because I'm afraid I might not even be able to watch regular movies if they don't release a non-3d version.

I have a problem with the polarized glasses 3d also. I can see the black frames. So the movie is always flickery to me. To me, this might be my first chance to truly enjoy 3d, so I am excited!
Plus the gpu on it looks super beefy for a portable.

Yeah people have complained about that before. I remember when I saw the Haidinger Brush page when I was learning about optics in one of my physics classes. I can't see it, but I imagine it's annoying.
Correct me if im wrong, but isn't the 3DS's 3d nothing like 3D movies we've seen so far? When you look at the screen, everything is actually 2D. Only when you move your head, does the display adjust. It's not so much 3D, as rather a feeling that you are peeking into a world via a small window.
Personally, I find it a bit stupid. The only times you will see the 3D effect is when you move yourself or the whole console. I recon it would be rather annoying (not to mention ridiculous looking) to be sitting on a bus and shaking your head constantly to experience the 3D effect.
