Honestly the brasil game made me sad. Granted, I havent seen every game, but I haven't seen this amount of flops for a while. It was really blatant and I was shocked the ref didnt caution the brasilians. Brasil is such a good team, they dont need to flop :(

Edit: The games not finished but poor Japan, completely screwed by the ref. I guess I know why I dont watch that much soccer outside the world cup, this is depressing :(

Flops? Do you mean "taking a dive"? Brazil was well behaved yesterday compared to past games. Expect a few "embellished" falls during the Spain-Portugal match.

So far the Spain-Portugal game has had fantastic pace and has been mercifully free of embellishments, or at least the referee hasn't fallen for them or overreacted in punishing "actors".

Any thoughts on FIFA's about face re goal-line technology this morning? All I can think is lulz.
can someone explain this to me?

Cristinano Ronaldo is PORTUGESE...and plays for REAL MADRID. Which is a Spanish team.

Yet he's here today playing AGAINST SPAIN.. on the portugese team.

Am I the only one who finds this absolutely insane? How can a guy belong to a SPANISH TEAM, and then play AGAINST SPAIN in the world cup (the most important thing), and then go back to playing FOR SPAIN afterwards?

You either believe that within your society more individuals are good than evil, and that by protecting the freedom of individuals within that society you will end up with a society that is as fair as possible, or you believe that within your society more individuals are evil than good, and that by limiting the freedom of individuals within that society you will end up with a society that is as fair as possible.

Because he is Portugese, he just happens to play for a spainish team for his day job.

Its much the same way a number of USA players have or do play in the English football leagues.

Think of it as the olympics. This isn't the same league or has anything to do with the club teams. The world cup is for your country (though not always really) while club is for money.

it just makes no sense.

"OH NO!!! I LOST FOR MY HOME COUNTRY AGAINST THE COUNTRY I PLAY FOR!!...well, back to making millions in spain! Hello again everyone!"

He doesn't play for another country; he plays for a club in spain.

These are not the same things.

Sure he does. It's a Spanish Club. A Spanish Club in Spain. A Spanish Club, in Spain, that all of the Spanish citizens root and cheer for, who they call "their team".
