Yeah if you missed the last 30 min you probably missed most of what the final reveal really was (I think, maybe it was alluded to earlier?). In 30 minutes I actually became a fan of Matthew Fox, really loved that part of the performance.
I read something that really intrigued me (I think it was CNN), that most of the 'answers' weren't really directly answered but more of alluded to so you had a general understanding but still had thoughts about it.
I think it would have been much less compelling if they just came out and blatantly said 'Oh the answer to ____ is ____' which really was never Lost's style in the first place (kind of mentioned by you guys already).
I hope Breaking Bad brings some kind of good season finale after being pleasantly surprised by Lost.
Lost (TV Series) is Over (Possible Spoilers Inside!)
Some buttcruch already posted the damn ending on my Facebook. I mean, screw that - now I'll never watch the series.
I guess it's for the better, though - I have 13 more seasons of The Daily Show to catch up with *gets popcorn*.

Starting three months ago, I decided to watch through the entire series starting at the begininng after having previously watched only the first season (4 years ago).
I really enjoyed the show, but thought the season finale was incredibly lame. I don't mind a few unanswered questions, I actually enjoyed the show because of all the ridiculous theories my brother and I argued over and discarded every 15 minutes trying to explain what was going on.
[edit:] Oops, missed "(PS, try to only give general opinions rather than epic spoilers)". Fixed to be as spoiler-free as possible.
First, the way they wrapped it all up was seriously dumb - the last 10 minutes was seriously one of the dumbest endings I've ever seen.
And I still don't get what the side-ways universe was all about. And what's with the sickeningly humanistic emergent church symbolism? Bah, political correctness.
Second, what's with that shot of Jack, and then cut to Jesus statue, then shot of Jack, cut to angel statue. We get it already, he's a good guy and puts others before himself! [grin]
Third... anyone else notice the (unintentional, I'm sure) racist selection of those who were in the final scene? Where's Echo? Walt? Michael? Why were none of the black charactors there? The only exception is Rose. Also, the other minority charactor, Anna Lucea, wasn't there either. [headshake]
The episodes leading up to the Season Finale were amazing though.

I have never watched a single episode of Lost (still distrust J.J. Abrams thanks to his decision to "reboot" Alias after three seasons of build up, using the old "amnesia" canard). Now that the show is over, maybe I'll give it a shot and see what all the fuss was about.
I heard a while ago that some people had the "Avatar blues", well, now I have the "Lost blues"!!!
I was a die hard fan of the show, and I loved the season finale, those last 10 seconds were pretty special..., at least Lost answered some questions unlike the final episode of the X-Files...
I'm pretty happy in what Lost has brought to mainstream TV.

Some friends of mine got me to watch Lost starting late last winter. I watched all of it in time to catch the last two episodes live. I'm really glad that I watched Lost, but I thought the ending was exceedingly disappointing. I find the complaints that it felt "truncated" completely off the mark; as far as I can tell, nothing of any substance happened in that episode, so it might as well have been a regular 1 hour feature. Its redeeming mark was that it encouraged nostalgia for the "good ol' days" of the earlier seasons.
@irreversible - I'm curious, what did that person say the ending was? (Though obviously that counts as a major spoiler. Maybe you could ROT 13 it?) My point is that I can't think of anything that would spoil anything - everything that happened either seemed rather meaningless or was predictable episodes, if not seasons, in advance.
The un-explanation that "Lost doesn't like to answer all the questions" is OK, except that the show didn't even do that. It's as if the writers got lost in their own work and forgot about most of it. Loose ends in the audience's mind are all right, and I have accepted my fair share of those from this show. However, I have dozens of, for lack of a better word, "loose starts" - things like Walt's 'specialness', which was dropped within an episode or two of it becoming interesting. These things were never even developed to the point where they could be explained in a 2.5 hour episode. In short, I feel that the show would have been better if it had been a more concerted effort by a single writer, perhaps over a shorter period of time.
Sorry if that became a rant.

Possible spoiler warning. I tried to put major spoilers in small text.
That was where they were dead as distinct from the rest of the show.
I'm not sure you're using "humanistic" correctly but if it were only a Jesus church then people would whine about the fact that the ending didn't really fit that religion, not to mention that a number of the characters were not Christian, like Sayid, in particular.
My guess is to make the audience expect that he would get resurrected on the island.
Well, it's true that there weren't any African people, but as for minority characters you're forgetting Sayid again. Hurley was also Hispanic as was Anna Lucia. I'm not sure they said where either of those characters actually came from more specifically, though.

And I still don't get what the side-ways universe was all about.

I actually think they were trying to reinforce the sacrifice of himself to save the island after it happened. I'm not commenting that I don't understand it (misproper wording on my part), I was just laughing and commenting that they don't have to hammer it in with a blunt object.

Like I said, Anna Lucia wasn't there (at least that I could see). But you're right, I most certainly did forget Sayid, which is odd, since he's been my favorite charactor since the beginning of the show. [smile]
Having not watched a single episode of LOST (I prefer my shows to be self-contained 30 min packages that don't require a goddamn committment to watch), I had the finale explained to me by my mother-in-law. Honestly, it sounded like the creators were being clever for the sake of being clever and they themselves forgot what the hell the story-arc was supposed to be in the first place and coped-out with "Oh, they were all dead in the first place".
Which is funny, because 4 years ago I was saying that the finale will probably be that they're all dead and/or dreaming.
