Two question in one post, as it is related. I plan to make something that: a) might not make money b) just a little money c) good enough money, for a 3rd worlder. While I can code and do simple music, I'm not actually good at pixel plotting. All I need is a simple game art like SpriteLib, Tyrian images, and GfxLib Fuzed which I'm sure not included in the free image / art post yet. So the question is: 1 - How to legally use free image? For example they say written permission, what kind of written permission should I expect. An e-mail printout? This is why I ask this question here. I've seen the flash game book advert and I know they use Sprite Lib - so what kind of request is acceptable to a, let say, established book publisher? For example, Tyrian images is under CC 3.0, if I want to use it, based on the website, just add credit. But how do I protect myself legally? I mean, what if - he died right after I sold my project, his website goes down, and his son went "hey, that image my dad drew, I want $$$!!!". Should I print his website out? I know I could have e-mail him, but he might answer "ohhh, I get this e-mail all the time, dude - just add credits - I already wrote that on my site already!" Sill, what technique do you people use to use free images, legally, as in seriously protected legal? 2 - How much does it cost to ask someone to do graphics such as gfxlib-fuzed amount and quality, in case I prefer to play it safe? I'm still looking at gfxlib fuzed and Lost Garden images.
