Anyway, I kinda like "mashed", and I don't think it needs the "studios" part.

Except Mashed? Limted is already a registered company. IANAL but I doubt you would be able to get Mashed. I would not post questions to a public forum asking about company names you are considering, as there are people who would register it for a little over £20 so that they could potentially sell the name.

I think that's a session key in the URL, can't load the page (even after removing the double quote at the end). :)

I don't know about British law, you might be able to register a company in that name if it's a totally unrelated industry. In any case, I just don't care for that "studios" postfix. It's been used by too many companies, most of which don't even have one studio. I suppose it's influenced by the success and "coolness" of movie studios, back in the day when they where still the dominant entertainment industry.

I guess would prefer something like Mashed Games then.
Thanks for all the comments guys, its appreciated. I've decided to go ahead with Mashed Studios and have now registared it.

I have a few registared relating to my username (MashedLtd, MashedStudios) but I'm not sure if these name really 'cut it'. I don't know if to go with something like "Regain Software" Black Diamond Productions" etc.

Sorry, I see you wrote that you already have these registered. Would you mind saying where they are registered as they do not show at Company House.

Sorry for the misunderstanding. When I said in my first post that I have some of these registered I meant in domain form.

I wouldn't worry about it. MashedLtd is simple and most definately not bad in any way. Microsoft is a pretty crap company name tbh, there is certainly nothing special about it. If you make good games/software the company name won't matter too much so long as it's not PoopyShittyCrappy Ltd.

I disagree with the Microsoft statement.

In basic marketing, you learn that simplicity = rememberance. Look at common company names in the technological business that you remember and are household names - Apple, Google, Microsoft, Dell, etc. Why do you remember these? They're simple, easy to remember, and catchy.

Do you think that if IBM would of publicly went with the standard saying of their name as International Business Machines that they would of been better remembered? I think not. Tis the reason we have acroynms, simplicity.

While it's hard to find simplisitic names that aren't taken, I encourage every developer, and business in general, to look in this direction. You want something that draws a majority in, is easy to remember, and is catchy.

Hope this helps :)
