I think you should wait for BF3 to come out before making any conclusions, because BC2 is not meant to be a continuation of the main Battlefield franchise. It's part of the Bad Company series, which is aimed at a different type of player.

Is BF3 even in development?

Also, is there a PC demo if it out? (I haven't been keeping up on my gaming news lately...)

I really haven't noticed this, but I'm sure I'll be looking for it now you've mentioned it. The only time I've noticed it go crazy bright is for a second after a medic revives you.

Yeah that would be nice, except I'm not paying money to join a group of people who aren't asshats. That should be free.
You don't have to pay money. I help run a gaming clan, and out of the dozens of members who regularly play together, only very few of them actually donate money. Everyone gets to play on the servers paid for by that money though (unless you're an asshat). I'm sure there's similar communities in the US.

I just think BF needs a better system for vehicle manning. I'd like to see a rank based system like the commander.

You get points for blowing crap up in a specific vehicle. You lose points for crashing. If you want to drive a ship or jet or apache, you jump in a queue. Person with the highest points for that vehicle gets first available slot, and so on.

Nothing pisses me off more than watching 5-6 guys TK eachother over a jet only to watch the noob crash into a tree at takeoff.

That I actually think is one of the most amusing aspects of the game. Of course if you play with random people, on random servers, then you likely get idiots. Ideally you play with a community of people you know (at least in game), and you don't get that problem.

I game with the group "75th Ranger Regiment", they currently have two servers, one Rush, one Conquest. They offer a public Vent and are recruiting. I play with these guys all the time, and have never been asked to give over money. I will pay for one of the BC2 servers for a few months once I secure a job this summer, but it is still optional. Hop on their servers and get playing with some of them.

Make no mistake, I like this game but have you noticed a trend from DICE?

Let me explain.

In BF1942 we had movable ships which was fun but created a problem were players drove the boats into the coast shipwrecking them.
So in BF2 they made them stationary and indestructable.

In BF2 we had Jets, overpowered jets. We also have dolphin jumping (prone when jumping).
Now in bad company 2 the Jets are gone and you can't go prone (sniping is horrid).
It's even more fun to go back before BF1942. In the original, we had movable blimps, which were fun for assaulting bases, and trying to capture by jumping out of a biplane and parachuting onto it's roof before dropping thru the hatch and having a gunfight inside.
Or filling blimps up with jeeps and pushing them out the doorway over the enemy base as bombs... Or standing on the wings of fighter planes as a cheap transport plane... Or the flame-thrower that let infantry fight against vehcles... Or letting the flag-carrier escape the enemy by swooping down in your plane and jumping out right before you run into him, so he can jump into the pilot seat and take off in the still-moving plane!
Where's the hilarity gone Dice?

Dang, that sounds fun.

The problem with these, especially the good ones, is that the servers are always full. So you either have to wait several minutes for a slot to open up (and by wait I mean click incessitantly because dice wasn't smart enough to have a queue), or pay for a reserved slot.

I refuse to do that...

If there's a clan that has private servers that only lets members join and is free, that I would be interested in (if you know of one please tell me).

Why? If it's important to you, what's wrong with shelling out a few bucks?

Yeah, BF3 has been in development for a while now, but DICE hasn't released any information about it yet. Check out these articles:

Oh boo-hoo. You have to sit in Vent and joke with people for a few minutes while you wait for yet another random pubber to leave or the map to change and a bunch of people to drop. (There are a few times where bugs work in your favour,...)

Either pay for a reserved slot, or suck it up and wait for a slot to open in a server with friends. The 75th's Rush server is in the top 20, and I've never had to wait for more than 5 minutes or so to get in. Turn over is fairly high, just have someone IN the server who can tell you to join when someone drops.
