Now here's an interesting question:

Is Windows 7 at par or better than the Mac OS X?

I am curious to see what people think of this, as I have only used Vista, and not Windows 7, and in my opinionl, OS X was better than Vista...

I just bought my first Mac 2 weeks ago after having used Windows computers all my life. It wasn't really about "switching", I just want to make iPhone and iPad games :-)

So far, I'm finding OS X to be much nicer in a lot of ways. Leaving out the glossy shit and vague claims of "usability", what's really better about it is just that the guts of the computer seem much better thought out. The UI takes advantage of the graphics hardware, it has a proper terminal, and a unix based file system, and the general unix tool chain. It feels like what Linux could be if the open source community actually cared about visual design and ease of use.

Also, there really is a huge advantage to having the computer and the OS integrated as one. There's a lot of small touches that you don't appreciate unless you have one.

I'm generally finding the claims of usability to be better to be suspect. It's a lot prettier, but usability wise it's pretty much on par with windows. Windows is ugly (even 7), but in general the UI is well thought out and efficient.

Another nice thing is that apps don't tend to wreak havoc on your system. Even in Windows 7, installation is a mess, especially with the registry. Everything feels very nicely contained in OSX, and you don't have your tray filled with stuff you don't use that's just eating up memory. Plus every app just lives in it's folder. I really like that. You don't have random crap spread across your hard drive.

Not having the registry is fantastic. The registry is quite possibly the worst part of windows.

The only thing I really miss from Windows are the developer tools. Xcode doesn't really compare to Visual Studio, and objective-C is generally sort of weird.
I really liked the Vista sleep button :(

No the appearance...... it was pretty like the one on my tower and now it looks like a stupid textbox...............

is:
stupid textbox....

and why doesn't system tray resize itself no mores? Aside from these two inconveniences it's the same and better if what others say is true with regards to stability.....

I do like what they did with the blending of taskbar buttons and how it alphas out the windows to show the one you are looking at when you mouse over the taskbar button! :P

The new shutdown button is larger and therefore easier to touch/click. Some people (my parents) also didn't know what the icons meant, and so they always clicked on the arrow to display the menu of shutdown commands. The arrow happens to be the smallest of the 3 buttons and therefore the most difficult to click.

Having UAC not dim the screen helped a lot, also.
This.

If Windows 7 has one killer improvement over Vista, this toggle is it.
Except that you can disable the secure desktop in Vista too. I wonder why it takes so long to switch on some machines? I've got a old, cheap machine with a 2.13GHz Core 2 Duo and a Radeon HD3450 and it's virtually instantaneous, but a similar machine at work with an Intel GMA X3000 takes a couple of seconds.
The switching speed is dependent on the graphics drivers.

Heh. I was surprised to find out this was possible. It wouldn't have been enough to make Vista usable day-to-day for me, but it would have helped. After reviewing the process, though, I'm not surprised I didn't figure this out beforehand. Thanks for the tip.
is it possible to configure win 7 with win 2000 skin(like in xp)?
