What's a good source of free sprite art?
The kind where I know it's actually free and not ripped. Y'know, like the dubious stuff I'd get on a Google search...
Thanks for any and all help.

Check out:
- Free game graphics on Lost Garden. There's a fair bit there if you look through everything he's applied that tag to.
- SpriteLib is a collection of simple 2d graphics.
- Reiner's Tilesets
- Free Airplane Sprite Pack
- Jason Astle-Adams
TIGSource recently did a competition called Assemblee where lots of art was made. All of it is available for non-commercial purposes. It's not very well organized but there's a lot of good stuff in there.
I've got a thread stickied at the top of the forum that may be of interest, Free 2d/3d art assets '09!.
(I could probably stand to check all the sources and iterate the year on that, at that.)

Yeah, but some of those seem to be - Shall we say - "Rips".

None of the stuff in the dedicated thread should be rips, though some may be in the older version (which is an awful mess that I don't especially want to touch).
I really want to stay away from posting rips here, both from a legal and creative standpoint. If you notice anything untoward I should know about, drop me a line and I'll remove it.

Ah - I guess some of them are just remakes, then. Thanks, that opens up a lot more options.
