I want to make sure we're not running into a language barrier here. Are you saying that there were places one could go on university grounds and purchase alcoholic beverages? Hell, my university didn't even allow the consumption of alcohol on campus. While that is thankfully not especially common in the US, I'm not aware of any universities that sell alcohol on premises.

There is a micro brewery complete with brew master in my alma mater's student union. This followed the standard "University Rathskeller" design pattern. Although I can't recall if I could purchase beer with my meal plan...

It doesn't seem particularly uncommon. I attend The University of Melbourne here in Australia, and there's a bar on campus. You can go there and get a beer or what have you whenever you want. It's usually cheaper to go to one of the many pubs and bars surrounding the university, though.

Friday nights and sometimes Saturday nights. I never drink in the evening if I have to drive any time before lunch the next day - probably not legally over the limit in the morning but I know the hangover affects my reflexes and judgement.

Recently moved from Stella to Guinness as I like it and it slows me down.

I went to school at University of Central Florida, we had a bar/grill on campus in the food court that sold beer. My last month of school I had $700 left on my student ID so I spent it on booze for me and my rugby buddies.
