Hey all, I''m doing a research project on the cool customization functions out there on console games and I need an assist from the gaming community. Players on sports games like Madden Football can customize their teams and players according to player size, ability, name on jersey etc. or racing games like GT3 where you can trick out your car are examples of the customization aspects I''m looking. In terms of the customizability out there, what sort of custom functions would you like developers to add to games? Also, if you''re a PC gamer, what sort of customization functionality would you like to be brought from the PC games to console games? Any and all help and suggestion would be super appreciated - I''m a new games person and I don''t have the 411 of what''s out there. Big Thanks to All!
For those of you that take the time to make suggestions to this posting, you might be pleasantly surprised to find your input implemented as part of a major console manufactures offerings looking to create additional customization functionality in its future games with its development partners; This research gathering from the gamers point of view is important to see what you as gamers want or dislike about the customization features currently available in games today in order so we can create better games for you to enjoy. So once again, thank you to all that take the time to provide constructive suggestions to this posting.

Sincerely,

personally, id like to see as much customization as possible. and i dont mean just the rpg style customization, i mean more open customization... if youd notice on Need for Speed High Stakes(i see the game laying on the table, im not choosing it for any other particular reason)... the customization coems in a VERY linear fashon. meaning there are 3 upgrades each one successivly better than the one before it. this i dont count as customization. Also in Gran Turismo 1 and 2(i havent played 3) there is similar customization options but they are ALOT more open. Good customization would come from the fact that different combinations of customization have differnet strengths and different weaknesses. shooting games have good customization (although it may not seem like it) as you can choose different weapons and maybe put the silencer on or take the silencer off.. you know what i mean(think counterstrike). the great thing about this is that you dont have to play the game in one style. you can do commando style and pickup the heaviest weapons possible, or you could sneak up on people with the silenced pistols and do it the stealth way. Thats true customization... basically i think good customization comes from the fact that the customizations the player makes will affect the player in a non-linear way.
I am soooo bad at this.
I think it''d be cool to allow console players to use custom skins and/or logos in online games. The server admin would choose which skins/logos to use, and then they would be automatically downloaded on to every player''s console.

-Forcaswriteln("Does this actually work?");
I think Forcas is on track with his skins idea - that would be a definite plus for any online team-based games, cause teams could customize their logos and colors and come up with their own names as well as dress up their player models so they look like themselves.
