What are the seven ideas?
Hello
I heard that all stories in the world from the old ages up to now are based on one of seven ideas only.
Who knows these ideas?
Try googling "basic plots" or "dramatic situations". There are actually several different lists with different numbers of plots, and one recently-published how to write book that covers 20 "master plots" but says there are more than that.
I want to help design a "sandpark" MMO. Optional interactive story with quests and deeply characterized NPCs, plus sandbox elements like player-craftable housing and lots of other crafting. If you are starting a design of this type, please PM me. I also love pet-breeding games.
Ya the seven basic plots comes from greek literature if I remember my classics right.
But there is also the two plot theory:
Man goes on a journey.
Man stays home.

But, Cpt. Mothballs you forgot about the stories where nothing happens.
There are plenty of short stories that are just experiments in description of a scene to lead the reader into judging the scene one way first, then another in the end. Or ones that describe a scene as a play on words to make you feel motion in something lifeless (or the incorrect motion from something figurative). Like "The Eyes Have It" by Philip K. Dick.

The classic example is Waiting for Godot, but I think that would make for a rather boring game. [grin]

You can also tell stories without words. [smile]
If the player does any action not indicated by the original stage directions, it's game over?
