Character names?
Hello,
First of all if this is the wrong forum please let me know.
I am writing the storyline for my RPG game and am trying to figure out names for characters. What’s keeping me stumped is that this takes place in a fantasy setting/medieval, and im having a hard time thinking of good names for it, and keeping them unique. How do you guys go about thinking of cool names for characters?
Thanks,

GyrthokNeed an artist? Pixeljoint, Pixelation, PixelDam, DeviantArt, ConceptArt.org, GFXArtist, CGHub, CGTalk, Polycount, SteelDolphin, Game-Artist.net, Threedy.
Find out who all the characters are first and what their traits are. Then look up the zodiac signs, mythical creatures, or greek/norse/whatever gods that share the same traits, and use that as a starting point.
Name your characters last. First find out WHO everyone is, and what role they play. It will be easier to name them then.

Alright,

Daaark,
thnaks ill try that then.

Keep a file of names that you've made up. It's easier to find the right name than to make one up on the fly.
Here's how I populate my name files:
Word Jumbles. If I can pronounce it, I write it down.
Word Searches: I ignore the words that you're supposed to look for and just search for any string of letters that could be a decent name. Those go in the file.
Altering foreign words and names: Baby names, street names and words in foreign languages are a gold mine. Combine the beginning of one word with the end of another. Alter a few letters. Add or remove syllables.

For creating names I don't like using name generators, the names are just far too different to appeal to me. The methods I use are listed below:
-I tend to use real names and mix them together. Here's a good site for doing so:
http://www.behindthename.com/
-Another way I name people- or maybe races if it's a fantasy game- is by using an adjective or combining two words that are alike into one.
-A final way I name characters is by taking one word to describe them and then remove letters. If it's a full name I sometimes just split the word into the first and last name.
-To name locations I may take a real world place, or a place dear to me and remove letters, add letters, jumble the letters, or reverse the word. (Canada- Adanac).
Feel free to mix these methods together to make a name to your liking, I do that too.
