Ok, well, I'm a fairly good modeler (used 3ds for 2-3mo. now, really grasped it) and I have a SERIOUS problem with skinning UVW maps. I use GIMP and Photoshop CS3 to attempt to create skins, but they just look absolutely horrible. I'm not a game designer, just a modder, but to mod....skinning is a real skill that I NEED. Is there ANY tutorials out there, or advice, ect. that can help me, because I think is is a core skill that I need to be able to create my visions and put them in other games. -Kind Regards
Can you post a few examples of what you have been able to create so far? With some we may be able to see where you're lacking. You can checkout my guide for some information that may help you too, it is also stickied at the top of the visual arts forum.

p.s. For future reference to help you avoid confusion with others. What you're referring too is texturing/uv'ing. Skinning is the act of rigging an animation rig with a model. Though i have seen skinning used both ways, however texturing is the more common term used for what you're referring too.

I suggest looking at the tutorials section of poopinmymouth.com

It's got video tutorials for unwrapping a 3d model and using photoshop or gimp to create textures.
I did some photoshop tutorials a while ago on an introductory level for modders:
