Can someone answer this qs about Shimmering?

I have noticed that I have alot of shimmering in some of my games - by shimmering i mean the graphics are like blinking and very distorted. I have a nVidia TNT 2 M64, with default drivers. I have tried absol everything, does anyone know how i can get rid of it? adn any URLs to find more infor on the problem will be helpful ie what is mipmapping? Thanks Shelton
