Dear All, I am looking for a free collection of music to be used for my academic research... i would like to develop application that shows a list of music to the user.. thanks in advance

If you mean game music, then it is hard to find, since music that is free and therefore public domain is only on music if the composer died 70 years ago (75 for the USA) and is not protected by the family (like for example Gustav Holst - the family sued succesfully Hans Zimmer for using music)

Most of the classical music is also public domain now. Check if the composer is dead longer then 75 years. For example Richard Strauss (the famous Also sprach Zarathustra) cannot be used, since he died in 1949, same goes for Shostakovitch etc, but the oldies (Beethoven, Bach, Vivaldi etc) are for sure public domain and therefore free.

Sometimes you have to check to make sure you have permission to use the actual recording, if you're running straight from CD.

Actually i want collection of different music to be downloaded to my desktop to be used directly in my game ...
i need for example around 2000 different songs....
