Artists for game graphics: Wanted
Hi, I'm in the process of making a video game and am looking for people who are interested or experienced in game design. Specifically people who are interested in drawing pixel type graphics for a two dimensional platformer which is based on exploration and atmosphere. The majority of the work will be tiles, objects (enemies, plant life, atmospheric characters, insects, etc) and some background and minimalist special effects work and a menu system (GUI) (possibly not pixel based.) I've decided to go with a less formal approach for this project and I'm looking to get a lot of people on my team. If you have any doubts about being able to produce a large quantity of items please think twice about responding. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions and think you might be interested. I'm looking for a wide variety of environments and the artists capable of thinking-up and creating them. Credit will be given where it is due, and if the game is known throughout the internet then those involved will be too. The release date is aimed for the end of Summer 2008 but may take longer as needed.
STORY: A little creature wakes up in the middle of the night to a loud crashing noise and notices that his home planet is overrun with this toxic mold. The player then takes control and from there the main focuses are exploration and atmosphere. The player finds new items along the way to help him explore further and eventually learns that it was a meteor from another planet that spewed mold all over the place. Little does he know that by the end of the game he will learn it was not a meteor but an alien space craft commandeered by a creature who is seeding the planet with mold for his own evil purposes.
The graphics are going to be "kind of cute" (and I mean charming, not anime style hearts and oversized heads, lol) but also with a mixture of strangeness, after all the game is set on an alien world in some alternate dimension. I think it's very important that the game has a certain charm to it. As far as the technical aspects go, the graphics will be small but pixel based. Most of the graphics will be 24x24 or multiples of 24 pixels. The graphics will be .png and have an alpha/transparency layer.
TECHNICAL: The graphic/tile designers will toss all their tiles/objects (creatures, enemies, insects, atmosphere, etc) in respective folders and will be accessible via a level editor. The game is being coded in Java. At the moment it is in alpha stage 0.005.
I hope I answered most of your questions. If you have any more, please don't hesitate to e-mail me. Oh yeah, I just started up a forum the other night for the project so you can check out more information if you're interested (story, concept art, etc). It is located here. As far as animations go, the graphics are pretty small so it shouldn't be as hard as if the graphics were much larger. Besides single tile artists, I am also looking for animators who can bring some of the graphics to life. If you, or anyone else you know might be interested, be it artists, designers, level designers, aspiring writers to help with the story, or just anything else you might be able to contribute, you can also send them over so that maybe we can get them involved in the project too. If you want to get started immediately feel free to start drawing some little creatures or tiles or check the "Requests" section on the forum and send them over whenever you're ready. Again, if you have any more questions, let me know.
Hope this reaches you well,
James
