Advertising my game to attract artists.
Hi,
I'm a college student working on my own computer game, and it's going along nicely except that I don't know how to find an artist willing to help me.
The game is 2D and supports 24 players simultaneously over the internet. This has been my brain baby for almost two years now, and a lot of my sweat and blood has gone into it.
What would be the best way to attract some artists to work with me? I have placeholder sprites that I drew myself right now, but it seriously looks like crap and I'm afraid people will be scared away by the bad graphics.
So some of my questions are:
1) Where is the best place to look for artists? gamedev.net? cgtalk.com?
2) What sort of demo should I put together so that artists are interested in my game?
3) For all the artists out there, what's your biggest concern when you're considering collaborating for a non-profit project?
Thanks a lot for helping

Both of those are good places to look, though if looking for 2D Pixel artists the best place to look is where they hang out like Pixeljoint, and a bunch of other places you can find through their links section.

If its non-profit the more complete your project is the more likely that they may take an interest in it, since people don't like spending all their time making free graphics for a dead end. Screenshots, descriptions, and a working version and/or demo showing the games features and gameplay will help. Most of all show your dedication, the more you can convince people it will get done improves your odds.

That it will actually be completed, though i can't speak for everyone. As previously mentioned, working on alot of artwork for free is difficult enough without the knowledge that the project might not go anywhere.
If all else fails and you are unable to find an artist, you could try reading Contracting Art For Your Game, and Creating Good Game Art When Your Not An Artist. Or you could always dig up some tutorials off of Pixeljoint and their affiliates and try to learn yourself.
GyrthokNeed an artist? Pixeljoint, Pixelation, PixelDam, DeviantArt, ConceptArt.org, GFXArtist, CGHub, CGTalk, Polycount, SteelDolphin, Game-Artist.net, Threedy.
