What should I open this with?
I'm currently working on making a 2d game, and for the characters I am planning on rendering 3d models for the 2d characters.
I'm not very proficient in art, so I was looking for some free mesh downloads and I found one that comes with animations and textures, so I got right on it. I dont know what I am supposed to open it in though.
It comes with a b3d file, a cfx file, a ms3d file, and some texture files. So I tried opening it in milkshape because of the ms3d file, but the textures dont seem to apply when I open it, and I can not render the scene in milkshape anyway. I tried exporting it to open in Blender3d, but it only exported the model - no textures and animation.
So what should I open this with, or how should I go about getting this model to render with textures? If the animations would work that would be great too, but if not I would work on my own animations since I know how to do that. My weakness is modeling/texturing.
Thanks in advance.
It probably did export the texture to blender, but it exports the UVs, in blender select the faces and open the actual texture image. In other words, you need to tell blender where the image is. As for animation, I don't know, moving animations around to different formats has not been easy for me so far.
I think you misunderstood.
The textures arent even showing up in MilkShape when I open it in there. Is this just a bad model?

What hogarth is saying is that you may need to reapply the texture to the model. Just because you have the texture file and open the model file does not mean the model will automatically apply the texture to it, that is something you may need to do.
