I know this sounds stupid, but what does a game engine do? ----------------------- Hail to the king, baby.

It takes care (usually) of the polygon rendering, colision detection between objects, cameras, tranformations and a number of other things your game needs to do in order to be a game. It does it in a generic fashion also so its not specific to your game.
