WindowsXP
Well, I finally got the chance to look at it. From what I saw it''s a great system.
From the first look you could see the NT/2K architecture. (Secure logon, etc. etc. etc.). So the system should be stable. For all of you guys who said "I almost threw up when I saw the screenshots". It seems MS has finally implemented the skins capability into the GUI, so you''ll be able to do the same thing you do to your winamp. Every time your skin get''s annoying you change it. Finally!!! I don''t think I can express how sick I am of the good ol'' taskbar.
Everything else is pretty much the same. They reorganized the start menu and put "my pictures" and "my music" in there, but you can organize it whichever way you want.
The only problem I have so far with it is registration, although I''m sure the hacking community will fix it pretty soon

The WinXP cracks are out there, I have three on my hard drive to allow any who ask me to mess with Microsoft to their whim. I don't personally want it to ever touch my hard drive, much less my CD-ROM's, with its filth. You can find them on the internet if you look around, I would like to hear if it really is as easy to crack as it seems to be (in my own opinion).

I''d be more impressed with WinXP if it weren''t so prettied up and bloated.
I want my apps to perform. I want Windows to just be there and I''d rather not need a skin to convince myself that having something nice to look at is worth the 50% drop in system resources.

Ok, just to clarify something before I get flamed and yelled at by producers and moderators: I am NOT encouraging the pirating of WinXP. I AM encouraging not allowing Microsoft to shackle you with its Product Activation.
Also, KalvinB, that is among the top of my complaints about WinXP. They''re actually selling a server version, what server needs a +24 MB GUI

The cracks are easy AFAIK. The one I know of at least, you have to boot up into safe mode first time, and do some stuff with the crack, and it won''t bother you with activation stuff again.
I haven''t done it myself, just people I know. I don''t plan on using XP until there are no other operating systems left on the planet, and I have no way of making my own

Speaking of building your own operating system. Has anyone ever thout of doing it? I have for some time now and have generated alot of notes.

Rather than building/writng your own OS, why not join one of the many "alternative" OS efforts currently available? Take a look at all the source code that goes into making an OS work; modify it as you see fit to suit your purposes. Total control.
Examples, of course, include Linux, FreeBSD, AtheOS. Linux is particularly strong and has plenty of support groups and documentation for it (Linux Documentation Project, www.linuxfromscratch.org, etc).
Personally, though, I use Win2k because I need a _production_ system that I don''t have to tweak to get DIVXs to play, or read a 10-page HOWTO to get my SBLive! working. As for WinXP, I''ve adopted a "wait and see" attitude. Remeber, Microsoft''s greatest competition in the Intel desktop/server market is itself (previous Windows versions).

Writing your own OS is fun! H4X0Ring an existing OS is cool, but it''s not the same as writing your own.
