Getting back muh datas
Heyos.
I'm still without a good development computer, but my dad's old Pentium II works well enough to at least play some old games and listen to music. I'd still like to do work on my projects, though, and all the code and everything is on one of the hard drives from my old computer.
The only problem is, that hard drive doesn't want to work in any computer but the original. I've tried putting it in the P2 but the damn thing isn't recognized. Hell, it'll sometimes just stop the system in POST. And since I can't find any mobos old enough to replace the one in my dev machine (I need the AGP port for the graphics card and two IDE busses for the HDDs and optical drives; getting a new motherboard would make me just have to get a whole new computer) I just don't know what to do.
Anyone know how to get a surly 120Gb hard drive to work with circa-1998 technology, when a newer, 250Gb hard drive works just fine? I want my code back. :(
If you have two machines, wouldn't it make sense to just copy the code over a null modem to the new hard drive? I wouldn't trust a ten year old hard disk with critical data. :/
An external USB drive enclosure may work as well as long as the PII system has a USB port.

get a USB enclosure for the IDE drive, and if you really need to fix the old machine go to vfxweb
