Yep, I know exactly what you mean.
I have had absolutely no problems with Win2k. IMHO, it''s the best desktop OS ever.

Well, as far as the Linux Zealots are concerned, Linux is gonna kick MS''s behind.
Heh, wonder what they''re going to say about Microsoft''s $9 Billion profit, as opposed to Red Hat''s how-many-million-was-that(?) loss.
Check out http://www.fortune.com to see the Fortune 500 list. MS has had a stunning year (financially at least, compared to the competition).

In the context of businesses and power yes. Your power is always based on wealth. The more wealth you have the more power the and vice versa.
>>So the quality of software is equivalent to how much money you make ?
Yep.
Soon people will be asking questions like "Daddy why did people ever use Linux?" and saying things like "Linux was only used by perverts looking for kiddie-pr0n, Johnny."

I really hope half of these posts are a joke. You''re all good programmers (I assume), so I hope you can see the merit in the GNU system and open source "freed" (not always free though) software. I still think Linux must mature (a lot) to become a Desktop OS, but it already among the most used OS''s for workstations (SGI anyone?), and Unixes in general almost dominate the server market (even MS uses FreeBSD and Unix for some of their servers, and Linux is just Unix+GNU). I''m not going to blatantly ignore an opportunity to expand my products to other operating systems because of my own biases and unwillingness to adapt to the evolving system of computing.
I once disliked the entire GNU movement because it would force me to deal with new markets et cetera. But I''ve since realized, that it is no way will hinder my projects, but help them! GNU really doesn''t get the respect that it deserves. Instead of praising a system oriented towards profits no matter what they have to do to acheive them. I think everyone can and should learn, if not participate in, from the selfless improvements that people can make to an industry and donate to that industry simply by being a part of it. Microsoft and most everyother large corporation doesn''t care about you. They care about businesses. That''s why they overcharge for their products, because those businesses can pay for them (unlike a lot of users) and will pay for them because they don''t want to become obsolete. I''ve personally decided to never pay for another MS product, and I plan to stick with my decision for better or for worse until Microsoft shapes up their product(s) and caters to the entire public.
I agree that Win2K is a good OS, but the only reason anyone thinks that is because it is WinNT+DirectX (and some other uncommonly used features like dynamic partitions). If WinNT had supported MS''s proprietary DirectX, then people wouldn''t praise Win2K at all, they''d just call it another patch that you pay for (like they called Win98/WinME and probably would call WinXP if WinXP wasn''t an ''un-patch'').
Sorry, my rant about closeminded antiprogressive people is over now. I''m not pointing at any of you in particular, I''m just fed up with people that insist on proprietary everything instead of at least considering their alternatives. Ignore me, most people do.
