Hey, I uploaded five new music tracks and one old song (now updated) to my MP3 player on my website: Madsen Studios. I figured since I often give feedback on other people's work posted here, I'd change things up a bit and let you give me some input. The updates are: New version of The Sword Battle (formally titled The Battle). Menu Screen: Totally new orchestral piece. Simple: New electronic, down tempo tune. Late Night Jazz: Just a fun track I did for a game a while back. Orchestral Choir 1: Dramatic, tense piece I wrote for an upcoming anime TV show. Dungeon Theme: Moody and ambient, this was written for Eternal Equinox, a text adventure game already released. More info at www.MISoftStudios.com. Thanks in advance, Nathan [Edited by - nsmadsen on July 23, 2007 3:36:12 PM]

Sword Battle! I love it! Always have and always will...keeps impressing me. Those strings are...I think beautiful is the only suiting word. You must be really proud of this piece.

Menu Screen Really relaxed. This song doesn't really follow any real solid melody, but for some reason it doesn't get boring. Good job.

Simple Not really my type of music. But as you know, a good composer must be able to do multiple genres. You do a fine job in that :).

Late Night Jazz Sounds like a sort of long Organ Solo. It is jazzy, but does not really swing out. Oh, and it doesn't loop correct.

Orchestral Choir 1 Animé? Perfect! I always got the feeling Animé series got this special touch to their music and you seem to grab it. By the way, are you gonna do the intro theme too? In that case you gotta do it "badly englishpronounciated completely gay"-style...All japanese Animé series got that too!

Dungeon Theme Sorry mate, this ain't creepy. It's a nice song, reminds me of Golden Sun with that panfluty sound. But creepy it's not.

Simple could use some more melody, but I don't know in what situation the piece is used. Late Night Jazz could swing some more, and Dungeon Theme ain't creepy. Those are the only bad points I have at the moment. Now I'm gonna listen to and relisten Sword Battle. (And Suspense Demo, Me likeyz that one two!)

What do I expect? A young man's quest to defeat an evil sorceror while discovering the truth of his origins. A plucky youngster attended by her brutish guardian. A powerful artifact which has been broken into a small number of artifactlets distributed around the world. What do I want? Fewer damn cliches. - Sneftel

Thanks for listening and for the kinds words Stenny!

I appreciate it!

Just for the record:

Late Night Jazz isn't supposed to loop. It just fades that portion out. The solo instrument is actually vibes, with an organ comping behind it.

Simple was meant to be just that- very understated. Sometimes I feel the urge to throw everything and in the kitchen into my pieces and I forget the power of something simple and not complex. Perhaps more melody could be tossed in, but I like it just the way it is- simple. The only thing I'd like to tweak is the marimba level and inflections at times.

Dungeon Theme: You know, I think I agree with you. Creepy isn't the right word. I wasn't trying to make something scary, more moody and ambient. I'll have to change this description as it doesn't fit.

In any regard, thanks so much for taking the time to listen and give me feedback.

Thanks,

Nate

Awesome tracks! I'm just getting into the business and use Sonar 6 PE as well. Would you have any advice on recording orchestral bits? I'm working on a military themed piece that I want some snare on (thinking of just recording it through a condenser mic)but most importantly I want to get the looming orchestra sound, similar to what you have in your two orchestra pieces. Also, any VST plug-ins you really like would be helpful too. Love the tracks!

Thanks PwnedByRyan!!!

For my orchestral sounds, I use East West samples. I have the choir suite, symphonic orchestra (both the standard and the expanded version) colossus and storm drum packages. They are expensive, but if you dig around the web long enough you can usually find a good deal somewhere.

These samples also take up a good deal of space and CPU power, so you'll need a system that can handle it!

UPDATE: I've added three more tracks.

Two Nintendo DS samples from a racing game coming out this Fall or Winter and Lost Forest which was originally written for a MMORPG that fell apart.

Some of this music is for sell (contact me in private for details) and can be used in your game. Other tracks are already under copyright and cannot be used.

Thanks!

Just a quick note to let you all know that two new trailers, one new piano improv and some more quotes have been uploaded to my webpage. I'll keep adding content (or replacing content) as more of my work gets released.

For those interested, my sound design is promoted in the two new trailers (Solty Rei and WitchBlade). For me, sound design has been a secondary skill that I've just started to really develop and polish over the past year or so. I'm continually trying to learn more about it and hope that I'm making good headway.

Advice, input and donations are always accepted. ;)

Thanks,

Nate
