I'm looking for help with drawing in isometric style. (The link in the "Tutorials and Downloads" sticky is down :( ). It needn't be pixel art focused, just help with the isometric perspective and style for grid-based combat. Anyone know any good resources? Thanks.
Try googling 1-point perspective. Drawing in an isometric perspective is easiest if you have a drafting table or other solid square table and a t-square and ruler, and a compass helps too, although it can also be done on the computer, preferably in a vector graphics program. You pick a vanishing point - this is the center of the horizon. Usually it is not in the center of the game screen, but near the top or even off the top of the visible screen. You draw a construction line straight up and down through this point, and also lines at 120degrees (or 90 degrees for a top-down isometric), then you use your ruler to construct the isometric grid. Once you have a sample gridded screen you can sketch sprite thumbnails on an overlay to get them in a matching perspective.

I want to help design a "sandpark" MMO. Optional interactive story with quests and deeply characterized NPCs, plus sandbox elements like player-craftable housing and lots of other crafting. If you are starting a design of this type, please PM me. I also love pet-breeding games.

Thanks. I am actually looking for stuff more along the lines of how to draw characters/creatures walking and attacking in isometric perspective, rather than from the front, side, or anything else. I thought there might be special tips or tutorials...
Just get some sprites from an existing isometric game and see hoe they did it.

You could have a look at
PixelDam and their links to various tutorial.
Cool, thanks. I found my way to Isocity (http://www.kennethfejer.com/isocity/), which is awesome.

In terms of examining game sprites, does anyone know any cool-looking isometric games, with human or other creatures (as opposed to robots)? The only one I could think of is Tenchi Muyo for SNES. Thanks.

Dofus is an online isometric game which is currently growing rapidly in popularity. It has a sort of anime-ish style.
