3ds Max problems...
Hello,
I have got two questions about working with 3ds max 8:
1) So I have downloaded a 3D model from the internet:
http://img119.imageshack.us/my.php?image=3dstudiogm2.jpg
So this model (geosphere) has got 12000 polygons. It is quite a lot. I would like to reduce the amount of polygons. How I could do that?
2) While rendering (Shift + Q) I get a message:
http://img119.imageshack.us/my.php?image=missingfileru5.jpg
I understood that this means that a file M83.png is rendered on the model. If I try to change this file to another which has a different name or file format, after rendering I get a grey model which is on the 3ds max scene. How I could change the foto which is rendered on this 3D model?
Thanks in advance.
There is no way that i know of to reduce polys easily..
for starters though, that shape is very simple, why not just recreate it with far less polys,
and the material that the renderer is trying to link to will be in the materials dialog box, take a look there, (press M), it should be there,
one of the balls will have the image wrapped around it, to change the image, (if its was done this way), click the little box next to diffuse, and then choose bitmap.

Thanks for answer.
I took a look at the materials dialog box and there no one of the balls has the image on it. So maybe there is a different way for changing this?
You _could_ use the Multires and/or Optimize modifier if you want to do it very quickly...it should work without any problems on a model which has a shape as simple as this. However, I wouldn't recommend it for more complicated models since using these modifiers can reduce polygons in places where you don't want them reduced and end up making your model slightly or severely distorted.
