Using maya noob help

I just started using Maya, after using 3d studio for a long time. Anyways, I create a cube Create->Polygon->Cube And then I hit F8 to change to component mode. And I right click on my cube to select faces and nothing happens. I can't select the Move, Scale, or Rotate tool with my mouse either. I solved this a few weeks ago, but I can't remember what I did. Can anyone tell me how to solve this? Thanks Nick
To get out of it, hit F1.

There are many sites available for tutorials, such as 3dtotal, simplymaya, etc. All you need to do is google 'maya tutorial' or something and look.

Your question is so basic that if I answer it directly, I am sure you will be back in a day with another one.

Thanks, I'll try F1.

But, I don't see how telling me something so simple will actually hurt me. I've been using 3D studio for a few years and this is an interface question.

I have already fully completed a model with the tutorials I have been using ,and I don't have time to spend hours trying to figure out how I can be able to right click the object so I can use the pop-up menu. I have spent 1 hour and read 5+ tutorials with no luck. That's why I asked this question, in desperation.

If I was asking how to sub-divide a model I could understand the fish answer, but for something that is UI interface only and doesn't really have anything to do with actual modeling. I'm at a loss with your fish reasoning.

If this sounds rude I apologize, but the answer was somewhat off the mark also.

But, thanks.

Nick

Yeah, screw maya. Can't get it to work. I'm just going to upgrade to 3ds 8. Maya sux and thanks for nothing. You would have been better off not saying anything at all

Your question was "basic" because it would be covered in most introductory tutorials for Maya. UI is the first place someone will start when they're writing a walkthrough of modeling something, because you always have to deal with the interface for, well, anything.

Asking such a basic question, therefore, implies that you didn't do much searching through the multitude of internet resources that would have explained the UI flow. I say implies, because you didn't claim anything to the contrary, like "I've looked through a couple forums at siteA and siteB, and the tutorials at (blank) didn't cover this either"

...and this did absolutely nothing for you, on a multitude of levels.

Hazard Pay :: FPS/RTS in SharpDX (gathering dust, retained for... historical purposes)
DeviantArt :: Because right-brain needs love too (also pretty neglected these days)

I you actually purchased Maya, it should come with several hours of video tutorials (and several books). The first one is a pretty extensive rundown of how the UI works.
