http://www.gamesare.com/music/MetroidOverture.mp3 I felt like creating my own version of the Super Metroid opening. It is fairly short and both synthy as well as orchestral, thanks for listening! :) There's more music at my site http://www.samdillardmusic.com Mostly original stuff there, and I will be adding more remixes as well Have a nice day!
Some of these tracks are really amazing! I haven't listened to them all yet, but I like 'Watchers From Above' alot.

[Edit:] Listened to all of the film scores now. 'Watchers' is still the best, IMHO.

Hey,

I LOVED Super Metroid. Have you considered posting this to ocremix.com? They would probably use it.

What a great game, and you've done a good job of redoing the theme.

Sam. Yes. Just yes. I remember listening to your samples a few months ago and was very impressed with your ability then, and no less now. I haven't heard much work which really did well in showcasing the musical awesomeness of Super Metroid but your arrangement is very appropriate. Dude, at least send this to OCREREMIX. They'll take it. Its both authentic to the musicality of the original theme as well as robust in its new instrumentation.

My only criticism...OOps. You did this theme, I guess you need to do all other music from the game now. :)

Seriously nice.
I've only listened to a couple of pieces thus far... and I have to say that I'm seriously in love with your work. Great job and maybe someday, if I ever get something to the point of needing music, I'll contact you about some contract work or something :) Great job and thanks for sharing!
"Game Programming" in an of itself does not exist. We learn to program and then use that knowledge to make games.
I'm glad you all like it! Yeah Super Metroid is definitely one of my all time favorites (it is tied with Chrono Trigger as my #1) and I love the music so I usually mess around and play stuff from the game but I never really attempted to make any kind of remix before.

Heh, I thought about making my own version of all the Metroid songs... though I really only like the music in Super Metroid. Metroid Prime and all the new ones have a couple decent tracks but they seem to be getting way too synthy and Doctor Who-ish for my 16-bit tastes, lol. I did like a lot of the music in Zero Mission though, especially the remixed Kraid's Lair theme. I may remix that one next, or maybe something else from Super Metroid. The Norfair 2 remix in Prime was pretty weak I thought (dude... the horns on the 16-bit SNES sounded better!) so I might take a shot at it. Oh I dunno what I should I do next, lol. Any suggestions? :)

Suggestions? While I love the music in Super Metroid, quite a bit of it is heavily ambient. Most of the tracks from the game fit nicely though I imagine an overhaul would probably make a few of those themes much more intense...such as the giant spore plant battle? :D

Have you checked this out? If you want to hear Metroid the way it is supposed to be heard, this is it.

Metroid Metal

Good luck
Heh, that's cool, but I dunno... I kinda like the ambient feel of metroid. Whenever I hear metal remixes it just makes me feel like I should be watching a tv commercial for the game or something, lol

I think one of the reasons the music of Super Metroid is so effective is due to its importance of colour over shape. Outside of the game, the music may not be as appreciable as standalone music. In-game, the application based upon the musical premise can perhaps be better understood. I like its sense of ambience though I am not sure how well it would work outside of the Xebes environment.
I could listen to the original Metroid all day, game or standalone. Its a very different soundtrack which relies a bit more heavily upon catchiness to sell the music, and doesn't sacrifice uniqueness for groovyness. Super Metroid is definitely quite a departure from the original metroid but I like how each soundtrack has something unique to offer. They are both classics as far as I'm concerned.
Very nice work! Not that I have anything in the pipeline that needs music right now, but are you available for project work, or are you otherwise occupied?
