First song with FL Studio, comments please
This is definatly not the most creative thing I've done, I'm mainly looking for critisism on the mixing side of things. This is my first time doing ~anything~ in FL Studio so be forgiving :)

This isn't actually that bad, man! It really sets the mood for an underground sort of thingie (thinking in RPGterms).
Ehm...for criticism. Try using Pan, let's see what the outcome is? I don't know...it's rather early in the morning here so I'm not really that clear in mind.

[EDIT]
Oh yeah. And you could do with a more creative name for this piece. Lol[grin]

What do I expect? A young man's quest to defeat an evil sorceror while discovering the truth of his origins. A plucky youngster attended by her brutish guardian. A powerful artifact which has been broken into a small number of artifactlets distributed around the world. What do I want? Fewer damn cliches. - Sneftel
Thanks for the comments stenny. Yeah i've been trying an electronica style in lue of the typical orchestral stuff, its quite fun. I'll try to work on panning, I also need to do something with that rave lead type thing, it comes in too suddenly (after hearing it again since going to sleep). And the name is completly awsome already :p
Very nicely done. Are those loops or did you sequence that all manually?
The lead synth towards the end is my favorite part.
Very "Dirty South". Sounds almost like it could be a hyphy/hip-hop track.
[EDIT]
As far as game music goes, you're correct, the lead synth does enter rather abruptly. But as far as commercial music goes, it's dead on.
Like stenny said, it needs more panning - the stereo fields needs to immerse the listener. Also maybe EQ the pads away from the bass a little.

What do you mean by EQ the pads away from the bass? Also, I don't use any loops if your talking about the drums. I use the Native Instruments Battery VST which is basically a sample player with lots of drum samples. The synth pads stuff however, while not 'sampled', use built-in arpegio (spelling?) type things. I don't concider this song finished yet having stepped away from it for a little while, I'm going to continue working on this and post an update soon. Thanks again!
Allright I updated a song with some changes, made the drums have an ending and changed the ending around, and tried to do some echo panning. Also changed that ravelead to something less harsh.
Ahh, I've heard great things about the NI packages, especially when it comes to drums.
About the pad/bass, it's really a mix-down stage issue, so don't worry so much about it until your ready to prepare your track for listening/distribution.
What I meant is that you should try EQ'ing the two so that they both sit within their own 'sonic range'. Try to give the bass as much space as possible, especially with 'colorful' basses such as this one. You really want to be able to hear every little detail of the bass. Try a hi-pass filter on the pad in the low-end, and maybe some notch filtering in the low-mid-range.
The new version sounds better. I like what you did with the lead, it has a more game-worthy mood to it now.
The panning is a good start, but you still need to utilize more of the stereo field. There's more to it than just the Pan knobs.
For starters, experiment with individually panning the mono outputs of a stereo instrument track/device. Doing this gives you much more panning options: like hard-left hard-right and different ratios of L/R (instead of the 2 mono channels being 'linked' during the panning).
Try using very small time-delays on one channel (L or R) of a stereo instrument track/device (or mono routed into stereo). You're effectively simulating the way you would naturally hear sound in the world (very slight time delays).
And experiment with different effects on one channel of a stereo instrument track/device. You can achieve some amazing combinatins of color + panning this way.

Thanks, you sound like you've been doing this for a while. Mixing definatly isn't my strong point, I'll try to follow everything you said and upload a new update. Thanks for all the very good information!
Ok, I think I'll move on to the next song now. I did some EQing and pushed the pads out of the midranges a bit more. If you have any more final comments for this test let me know. If I'm missing something, could you kindly link me to some tutorials or something that gives more information as far as mixing goes? I know mixing isn't my strong point. Anywho...
Here is the reworked version.
I kinda like this genre, even if my song sucks, I think I'm going to try to do some more in the same style. Thanks again for all your usefull input.
