Well, at the present I am orienting myself with the Torque Game Engine and I was wondering about building creation... Does anyone here know of any exporters for 3ds max 8 that go directly to Torque interior file format (.dif) ? If not, at least can anyone point me in the direction of one that exports (must be reliable) to .map (so I can go on and use the .map to .dif converter GG provides) for 3ds max 8? Thanks, -Ryan

Here's what you will need and it's free... http://blender.org

I'm not sure about exporting to the interior file format but since it is made by the same people responsible for the Torque engine I wouldn't be surprised if it did.

Edit: Uh.., I'm wrong about it being made by the same people. :)

Yeah...not made by people who made Torque engine hehe.

I looked into it before...I even continually tried using it. To sum it up in a few words: I hate it.

I just can't seem to get the right feel for its interface or any of its tools...I admire the project in general though; just not my tool of choice.

Thanks anyways though.
Well, since I couldnt find anything anywhere, I guess I'll just see about having one of programmers create one...thanks again anyways though.
<shameless plug>As someone who wrote and sells a MAP exporter for trueSpace/gameSpace</shameless plug> I feel the urge to let you know that building CSG on a non CSG editor is a somewhat difficult task, you would be better off using Hammer, gtkRadiant, QuArK, or one of the commercial alternatives such as 3d world studio.

Also, fixing preexisting non CSG models such as the ones found at great buildings, is usually harder than just rebuilding them from scratch.
Anyone know if this is changing in the future? The fact that Torque uses bsp based interiors?

I know I could ask on the GG site but someone here probably knows.

I would agree with Kwizatz, you really should use a csg specific level building app. I doubt it will be changing in regards to torque in the near future, they have a pretty specific reasoning for using csg architecture (speed, collision).

I don't think it will change anytime soon, the Torque approach is a rather solid one which allows seamless transitions from interiors to exteriors, why would they want to change that?
I don't think there are any dif exporters for 3ds Max, as they generally are orientated for export from a mapping program, mapping programs that have dif exporters are Cartography Shop, QuArK and more recently deled, I heard there was a dif exporter for Blender laying around, but nothing on 3DS Max.
BSP architecture has limits in what you can create. Also BSP construction tools are not as robust as traditional 3D editing programs like 3D MAX. A program like 3D MAX has been in development longer, by more people and has more people using it and submitting feedback than any BSP editor out there.
