Wow, this stuff is pretty good...
Do you have any tracks that you'd be willing to let me use in my game Project Phoenix (medevilenemy.f2o.org/pp.html)? I would of course put you in the credits... I just cant afford to pay you. :-)

There was a saying we had in college: Those who walk into the engineering building are never quite the same when they walk out.
Mad skills...Elvendale forest is...I can't find the right word. in this instance "beautiful" is such a lame word because it fails to convey the truth behind the depth of the composition. The orchestration and composition is masterful. The articulations are perfect...
You are going to do some very good things. I can't wait to see where your ability takes you.

@Med - I have a music pack floating around somewhere, where people can use the music if they are not planning on making any money off of their game, and if they are, licensing is needed.

I second Rain 7. Elvendale Woods is a fantastic piece. Is it EWQLSO Plat Pro XP + Choirs? The one thing I would suggest is that a touch more tremolo would help in a couple parts. Brilliant piece, though.
Is this for a project you can share with us?

I like house of wax the most myself...how did you achieve such a playfeel feel in child of eternity? Is it a particular key/scale you are using? Certain instrumentation? Rhythym? I crave knowledge! haha
Nice work

Jim, I basically used a lot of Debussian Scales, including Lydian, Lydian-Mixolydian, and a few creations of my own. (One I believe is also called the enigmatic scale)
For the child like aspect, the instruments I chose helped characterize this, and as you could tell, I was definetly shooting for that.
@Jervin - that piece is currently for demo material, although it could be placed in a game right now.
Cheers,

is there is a difference between modes and Debussian scales? I know the scales you mentioned as modes. I really would love to start learning how to use scales to achieve certain effects and not just as to "what will work" in a given key or over a given chord. There was two week summer film school thing near me in seattle studying with Hummie Mann but I missed it and I am already enrolled at another school for the fall so I can't participate in their regular course work.

As far as I knew, modes were references to the church modes. Dorian, Aeolian, Lydian, Mixolydian, Ionian, Locrian, Phrygian, and then permutations within those modes, such as hypodorian.
The Debussian Scale, 1 -2 -3 #4 -5 -6 b7 , is the combination of a Lydian and Mixolydian scale, and thus is also called the Lydian-Mixolydian scale. It could be seen as a combinatory mode/scale, but I have always just teated it as a scale.
I find it nice to use because it is easy to modulate out of, because although the strong tendency of tonic exists, having the #4 leaves the scale open to modulate to the dominant, and I typically, when modulating to the dominant, use a natural minor scale with a b9.
It is fun to play with, check it out :p
