My server is set up using Fedora Core 5 and VNC server runs fine. I can log in VNC from my XP development machine and I get to basic XWindows and can fire up XTerm, etc. My problem lies in that what I really want to do is log in with the Gnome desktop that I get locally. I saw a basic tutorial that said I should have a .vnc directory or file in my user directory and I would have to modify the file, but I have found no such thing. If anybody could help me out with this that would be great. I also tried firing up Gnome from XTerm but I get an authentication error or something along those lines, so I am guessing it is tied to the setup that I need to do. Thanks again of time!

If you want to use an existing X11 session, then you could use x11vnc instead of plain VNC (http://www.karlrunge.com/x11vnc/). Maybe is it available via yum?

Alternatively, I seem to recall that GNOME had a "desktop sharing" system, but I don't know if it used VNC or another protocol.

FYI, it's "the X Window System", not "XWindows" (yes I'm being pedantic). ;-)

Gnome has, as the AP says, a remote desktop feature which uses VNC.

You can turn it on through: Desktop->Preferences->Remote Desktop
