For the last couple of days I've been trying to get a better grasp of FL Studio and practice with its tools. Here is a song I whipped up, for which I would like to have opinions. http://www.sluggyandmaster.com/artwork/music/test_002-4.mp3 I was focused much more on post processing than the song itself and that is what I'd really like to hear about. Mainly because it is a process that I can apply to every song. Though tips for the tune itself are welcome as well. 1. How is the overall balance between tracks? Do the higher pitched notes fade or stick out too much? Does the kick seem to meld too much with the rest of the rhythm? etc... I listened on a variety of speakers systems with various EQ settings and tried to strike a balance. Does it seem to pay off? 2. Are the acoustic drums a little too prominent? I spent a lot more time on them, and I really dig their sound, but maybe they steal the show a little. What about the panning position for them? 3. Did I go overboard with the reverb and stereo enhancement? Too me it sounds great, but I'd like to hear what others think. 4. As far as the tune itself: I just followed a simple chord progression, perhaps it needs a little more? It also seems to me like there isn't enough in the lower-tone spectrum. Maybe a bass line of some kind would help? Do the drums seem to go a little overboard?
Sounds great, though the snare's a bit too loud and might sound a bit more blended in if it were panned closer to the centre.
You could get a bit more variety if you doubled up your current bass line an octave lower using in the second half of the piece (an electric bass would probably be better for this, synth lines can loose some tonality on the lower range).
