Hi, now I'm working on a RTS map and now I'm using a height field and a skybox. The problem is that with the skybox the map looks sort of small and enclosed. What is the best way to make 3D maps for RTS games? All the ones I've played like AOEII don't have full 3D maps, and you can't see the sky or anything. What do you recommend for a 3D one? Thanks.

Do you center your skybox around the camera, and reset the Z-buffer after rendering it? If you do, everything should be fine (taking for granted that the skybox textures are well done)...

However, I don't see why you would want to look at the sky in a RTS-game (perhaps for cut-scene's, but that's it), neither do I see what you mean with 'full 3D'. Those maps look pretty well 3D to me, you know. Or are you referring to the heightmap being limited to a field only, no caves and such?
