hello everyone : i just played nintendogs today and still thinking how cute those puppies are, im wondering what kind of AI they are using for those dogs, is it steering behaviors or some other new tech.? i really really want to make a dog like those puppies for myself, thank you.
Their AI seemed pretty basic to me, I don't know if there was really any new tech involved. There didn't seem to be much more beyond if you stroke them, happiness increments and if you feed them hunger decreases. It probably just stores a load of statistics like this that go up and down based on events and user commands.

I think any new tech was probably in the realistic animation, the gesture recognition with the stylus and the voice recognition. The impressive part of Nintendogs is how it gives the *illusion* of a thinking creature rather than *really* thinking. But then isn't that what AI is all about in games? :p
