Question regarding Direct X programming
hey, i want to start programming with direct x and i need a few answers.
1. direct x programming takes place in vb right?
2. what add in components do i need to start?
3. where can i find these components?
and thats about it... thanks.
although directx is usually done in c++, it can also be done in visual basic, although I would personally recommend doing it in c++, expecially if you are thinking of making a more advanced game, or you want all the speed you can get.
To start you will need a c++ compiler or visual basic, and you will need the directx sdk which you can get at microsofts site.

You''re really behind the game here psiburn. DX is only compatible with VB as of version 7, so I''m assuming you just very recently wanted to start game programming. Here''s the deal: go to borders, buy a C++ book; learn it good. Learn it very good. I want you to shit semicolons you know it so well
. Then you make some little dinky C++ apps that print stuff out and do various things, just to get exerience. Then you learn windows programming. Goto Borders and get some windows programming books, and learn them good too. I''m sorry but you''ll be shitting everything once you have to deal with windows, har har har
. THEN nows the time to get a game programming book. Learn it very well too. Then make some corny little game like tetris or centipede (watch out for Hasbro), and try to make it as good as you can. Then learn DX and start working on stuff. At least thats what I did.
