Hi all, I am conducting a market research survey for a class at my University (University of Waterloo, Canada) for a made up company. If you could take a few minutes to respond, either in this thread, or to my email rphunter_at_uwaterloo.ca, that would be terrific! Also, if you have any other comments, that would be great as well. All questions are optional if you do feel comfortable answering something. The following is a brief description of the venture and product: Venture: -------- RealModel Inc. strives to become an industry leader in designing, developing, and distributing low cost 3D modeling software for building software models of physical components through the use of conventional digital photographs (photogrammetry). Current technologies on the market are very expensive, generally utilizing laser 3D scanners. Within industry, it has often been deemed more cost effective to have a person measure out the dimensions of an existing component and model this component with a software modelling program from the measurements; a time consuming, error prone approach. With high resolution digital cameras approaching the wide-scale consumer price range, it now makes financial sense for industry to leverage this technology to capture images from multiple angles and use desktop software to triangulate surfaces to quickly produce high quality 3D models at a much lower price than traditional products. Product: -------- The first product produced from RealModel Inc. will be a software package capable of quickly and accurately creating solid models of existing components. The need to model existing parts is often encountered when manufacturers wish to create aftermarket parts or evaluate the compatibility of their new designs with existing components. The current method used to model components is to manually measure the parts, which is extremely labour intensive, inaccurate, and inefficient. The finished product consists of a camera being used to capture several images of the part to be modeled; those images are then transferred to a workstation. Using a series of algorithms, the program processes the images and stitches them together to create a detailed 3D model. The model can then be treated like any traditionally drawn SolidWorks part The following questions will help us achieve a greater understanding of the needs of our end users: Name: Company: Industry: Position: Email address: Phone #: What additional features would you like to see in the modelling package? Would you prefer an included calibrated camera or the ability to use an existing camera which may require additional steps to use the package? Would you have a need to buy the product? How much would you pay and why? Are you concerned over how effective and precise the software will be? How could those concerns be dispelled? Do you think you would attend a demonstration/info session related to the product? What do you find to be the most effective advertising medium for this type of product (commercial magazine, industrial magazine, trade show, etc.)? Please rank the following (1 to 6) on how influential they would be on your decision to purchase our software and a brief explanation if necessary? 0 - Price 0 - Product reviews, testimonials, awards, etc 0 - Ease of use 0 - Features 0 - Effective demonstrations 0 - Established market presence
No takers? It would be a huge help if somebody could give a reponse!

Thanks!
