I recently started another new game project. Usually what I do to prepare is create a kind of demo track (that rarely makes it into the game) to help me play with moods and themes. This one I'm getting real fond of. My wife thinks it's unsettling, which is what I was going for...inadvertently. Great, and I mean really great!

Unsettling is the word... good lord. The panning seems a little crazy at first, but it sounds great once the other music starts up. Very cool melodies, instruments (the strings sound amazing!), and cool overall effect.

A few of the dissonant notes are a little odd - well, obviously, but they just seem a little gratuitous in one or two places. The piano sounds a bit harsh and loud up the high register (of course, not unlike a piano). The original chanting cuts out at the end, and leaves a very strange bass warble after it.

Of course, none of those things are at all bad, really, just a little different. I don't think I have a single real complaint for the entire thing [grin].

Also, I'm already frightened of your game...

Very much thanks. The oddest parts I kept in because it made it that much odder and generally uneasy, like the overall presence of the piano and the extreme panning. It just doesn't let you sit there and listen to it calmly even though it's pretty calm.

I showed it to the team and they like it. They're going to try and fit it in somewhere. The problem is now I like it so much I don't want to just "put" it somewhere where you don't get to hear the whole thing.

Maybe it would be a good background to a Match-3 clone?

Agreed, this piece is way too affecting to put it somewhere where you won't get the whole thing or it will loop repeatedly (I don't think is something I'd want repeated). Maybe at a certain part in the story or a cutscene or something, if it's that kind of game?
