Unix in/on Windows. Is Cygwin good?
I know of MSYS and Cygwin but I am wondering if there's anything else like those for Unix programming. Right now I'm just trying to get reacquainted with Unix commands, awk, sed, and vi (/hurls everywhere). Any suggestions on similar software?
Please no answers like: just install Linux.
Thank you.
I find cygwin suits most of my needs. However, you might want to try Windows Services for Unix.
Uh.
Is there a way to get the Bourne or Bash shells with this WinUnix System?
Also is this WinUnix better than Cygwin or "it'll do".

I've used Cygwin and must say it is pretty useful. I don't have X install, just a basic terminal with the bin utils and then I have it set up with Mingw to build native windows apps... that way I can test my code with GCC and VS2003.
Wow.. I'm getting carried away here.. anyways.. good luck with whatever you choose.

It's called "SFU", not "WinUnix". As for the shells, you could port them. It only comes with Korn and C shells.
Any other suggestions?
It seems the SFU installation doesn't like WinXP Home, even if I install it from a NTFS partition.

Port them? That sounds like more work than is necessary. Just go with cygwin, it works ok (I wouldn't go so far as to say it works great...but oh well, it works ok)
Did you specifically need it to be part of windows?
You could try VMWare or some other emulator, and run UNIX inside Windows like that.
