hi, how does the thing's ai work? The people get scared and even kill themselves, my question is do you think these are scripted events? or do you think the guine think on the ai's part?

Are you asking about a specific game, if not, what's the "thing" to which you are referring? Your question is entirely unclear.

And is "guine" just a typo for "game"?

For those of us who haven't play the game, you should give us a bit more detail on "what happens when" so we can give you our opinion.

Eric
As I remember (I have the game but have not played it extensively) there are various factors that contribute to the overall status of the player. These events don't have to happen. I know, for instance, if you trust one of the team members to carry a gun, that character will calm down a bit.

'Thing' or 'The Thing'?

Also, I sugest you don't ask people to rate you as your rating is quite low enough. [smile]

Its 'The thing' plus my link to rate me was a simple plan. people that liked what i wrote couldn't be bothered finding the link to rate me only really angry people so i added the link thinking that my rating would go up, but i don't know what i did wrong please tell me!!!

If you turn this thread in the AI FORUM into a ratings discussion your rating is guaranteed to plummet.
If you really want to talk about it start a new thread in the Lounge, where you MAY get a sensible answer (but will probably get the comic and a rating of <350)<

You say people get scared and kill themselves - which people?
The members of your team. They start to get scared and then start thinking that you might be "the thing". Better take away their ammo or they'll shoot you or themselves.
To fill in for those who have not played "The Thing" (sequal to the movie The Thing by John Carpenter)

This is a FPS "horror" game which includes some form of group control as opposed to the lone gunman that is otherwise common in the FPS genre. The group function in The Thing has a twist. In the movie, an alien with the ability to mimic any living thing infiltrates a research station in the antarctic. Because the NPCs cannot know for sure if you're a human or an alien Thing they all have a trust value, and if it gets too low they will become hostile (for example if you hurt them or if you disapear from their line of sight for a while).

What I belive Gamerking was asking is: Was the NPC's actions scripted or AI based?

I only tried out the game for a short while and I think that it's probably a combination of both. Taking away amo from group members who are suspicious of you is probably not the best way to making them feel more secure Njpaul. :)
