Taking away amo from group members who are suspicious of you is probably not the best way to making them feel more secure Njpaul. :)

You're right, its not a way to make them feel secure. Its a way to keep them from killing you when they're a little too much over the edge.

Yes i remember playing that game the AI int was entirley based on trust from what i can remember and constantly using the AI feature to interact with your team

gamerking have you actually played 'the thing' or just read reviews about it?

I read a few reviews about the game, sounded good with the whole trust thing, but when I played it, I failed to ever encounter any thing remotely to do with trust.

When one of my group got hit by a monster, they would burst into an alien in the next room or so. And taking ammo or weapons away from them had no relevance, because they just simply tried to beat the crap out of you with their claws/arms.

johnnyBravo,
What difficulty level were you playing on? I have played the game a couple of times, the first time it was on an easy level and I found the same problem... where you could do whatever you wanted to the NPCs and they would follow you. On the harder levels your actions had more of an effect on them, although I don’t recall anyone ever killing themselves. They may attack me yet they seemed very intent on protecting themselves.

There were several scripted scenes (I believe this as they happened in both difficulty levels at the same point) when your NPCs changed no matter what you did. I recall at one point I blood tested one NPC (he passed the test) only to have him change several seconds later into the Thing.

I really can't remember what level it was on, but i think it was possibly on hard.

The only thing I had to watch out for when they got scared and I would accidently shoot them, as they would then try to kill me.

Yeah I remember that there were a few cutscenes where they would change int the thing anyway, but otherwise it was kind of obvious who had turned, as when they got hit.

I remember this game, never played it, but there was some article i read on it, basically the NPC's have stress levels, when their stress levels get too high, they do stuff that normal people in those situations would do, and yeah, its probably just complex scripting.

Like
if stress>100 then killmyself();

killmyself()
{
pickrandommethod();
die();
}

etc:P
