Try the Borland C++ 5.5 Compiler (free) the best compiler in the world (and good STL support )

You can debug your (win32) programs with the Turbo Debugger (free).

Dev-C++ is also very good (Mingw32 Compiler with IDE, free).

Or if you want to program in C only you could try the LCC Compiler + IDE (free).

Get BeOS 5 personal Edition 5.0 from free.be.com and on that same page is a link to the dev tools. Get those and install them and you''ll have a really great c/c++ compiler and IDE. It uses the CodeWarrior IDE and gcc for the compiler.... Just use STL project to make all of those command line apps that you''ll find in the beginner c/c++ books.
