What's in a name?
Lupine, I had figured you for a polygamist.

Yes, I''ve been thinking about this too lately. And I must say that it was Landfish who changed my perspective on games...because of his (and dwarfsoft''s) posts my project has turned into something totally different than I originally expected...but enough spam now.Let''s get to the point.
There are two categories really. You can compare it to cinema. The big blockbuster movies that cost millions of $$$ and don''t really have a point, and then there''s independent (sp?) cinema with some wonderful intelligent movies that cost hardly anything at all, except time.So this is what our games are, at least some of them (but not tetris-clones, for example). The independent cinema version of games.
Interactive Entertainement sounds nice.Interactive Fiction sounds nice too, but that''s text adventures.Hmmm...Computer Simulated World ? Nah... Computer Fiction...bah !
Ummm... I don''t know.
But I''m sure we''ll find something in the end.
Wait... Interactive Art ? Computer Based Interactive Art ? Hmm...

Funny how so many of you guys get so worked up about what makes an RPG an RPG and how Diablo can''t be an RPG and how Game XYZ can''t be Genre 123 when it has too many elements of Genre 456, how we should ignore genres and make games that transcend the traditional boundaries...
... and yet you get so hung up about finding a new name for these super new games that you are hoping to make. Are you so elitist that you don''t want your game to be called a ''game''? It has to be an ''artform''? And you have to decide the name of the genre yourself? Why not just make the game , instead of talking about what to call it, and if, yes, if it works and people love it, it will soon acquire a perfectly functional name...

*is roasted by the flames*
You''re kinda right, we should just go on and MAKE those games...but I don''t think it''s that terrible tht we''re trying to find a name for it, is it now ?
And after all no-one claims it''s just us or us at all making these new games. It''s a general wave that seems to be coming from the independent game design community.
