games that was very good before full 3d games
there was a game better than pokemon although it's old it was really good for every one n' many still like it till now it's called captain tsubasa an old japanese manga about a japanese soccer boy who master a shot the drive shot with freinds n' play againist players from all over the world and more, it was the best since n' still till now for the soccer fans n' by the way the japanese player who played very good and defeated italy or spain i don't remember in japan 2002 they were all the same genration who watched this anime in their country n' played the game it made a good effect on them. although it's easy 2 play but really very hard 2 master so why game designers don't try to benifet more from japanese manga it's not because it's japanese we leave it for them only unless they won't let any one do it , they have many good things that would be a good game like detective conan it will be a good game adventures for many gamers because they like conan they will just buy it sorry for the very long topic
The occasionally period or comma would be nice.
Even though it is Japanese, the game developers still need to get licensing in order to use the name/character, especially if an American company has already bought the rights and/or translated it.

KarsQ: What do you get if you cross a tsetse fly with a mountain climber?A: Nothing. You can't cross a vector with a scalar.
Yeah, that post needed grammar.
As near as I can tell, most Japanese manga are pretty derivative, using a lot of stock characters and default situations. I'm sure you could do some careful ripping off without incurring anyone's wrath.

Even if you were to get the rights to make a game based on a fairly original manga, it would be a hard sell at this point. The market is being saturated with junk games based on poorly translated and re-editted anime; the anime itself being a poor translation of the manga in many cases.
Pick a generic-plot manga and you'll likely end up with a good game, but nobody would care because the pathetic-anime-based games have soured the view of the public. The reaction will be along othe lines of "oh, that graphic style again. I'ts probably just another piece of junk like all those other games of cartoons they shove down kids' throats."
Only a manga very different from the typical crowd, yet also very strong, would make a good basis for a game at this point.
Hmm; this turned out far more business orientated than design related.

Sonic CD on the sega genesis cd-rom attachment was so cool
each level was huge and believe it or not had 4 totally different time set
past
present
ruined future
Utopia future
plus it had some fake 3d in game. Like when the camera switch position in Sonic on the gamecube when you are going trougth a loop . The sega cd version add that but it was prerendered and blended in with the level it was amazing for the time.
Not to forget the music that was pure genius. Of course each time set add variations in the music as well.. ruined future was more desolate , the past had more ethnic sounds , all in glorious cd quality.
boy that was fun !
