Hey everyone. I haven''t done any game programming before, heck I haven''t done any serious Windows programming either, so I thought someone could give me a couple of opinions. Is there a recommended track to take in order to gear myself to do 3d game programming? Should I do some windows programming first? How about 2d gaming first? I have a pretty solid understanding of both C and C++, but don''t relly have any ideas on exactly how to approach this new topic. Also, when you give your opinion, can you give an opinion on a good book or two to start me off? Thanks a lot, Ken
If your good at Math and are able to visualize things in 3d easily, just go ahead and jump right into 3d. I did so. Windows programming? Hmm.. jup, can be very helpful, especially for the tools you''ll be programming (if you aren''t in a team and doing the engine ;o). Windows programming shouldn''t be too hard to learn if you already know C/C++ pretty well. You might get yourself some kind of MFC book or so (Online Version?). That''d help. Ok, anything else? hmmm.. and yes (I think you heard that before : READ! READ! READ! *G* (Also the already answered posts here!)

Actually I would skip the MFC book and get a good Win32 book. Much cleaner for Game Programming. If your going to use Direct X
You''ll definitly need some windows programming knowledge and learning 2D stuff could never hurt.
