linux drivers
hello all Im a developer who realy wants to switch to linux alot but the problem is I use a VAIO notebook and they say its impossible to load linux on to a VAIO becouse my cd rom drive is external is there any kind of linux that would work on my pc.
Sure, just ask google how to do that. "linux sony vaio external cdrom" gives various guides.
Many laptops have specific hardware and driver requirements so for most types there is a guide how-to guid somewhere on the internet.

I have a really old VAIO laptop running linux with no problems (400 mhz, 64 megs of RAM). Considering that Sony is becoming relatively linux friendly (at least compared to many other companies out there), you should be able to get linux running with the laptop. The external drive might or might not be a problem.
Maybe try a linux live CD to try it out without having to install linux. You can download one for Ubuntu (or another distro - knoppix and mepis seem to be mentioned fairly often).
