What has your longest Game been?
Hey, I was just wondering out of curosity, what has been your longest development game? Like 1 year, 2 months, ect. I was just wondering. Also, What EXCATLY are you working on right now? Me? I am about to start development on a series of Educational Hangman Games. Starting with 1st grade working it's way up. The 1st one will be called "1st Grade Hang Man." It will teach young people everyday words like "fun, day, run, and more." Then I will go on and on. This series shouldn't take me very long as I can just keep up editing the file to make sure I get the new words in their. After I make it up to a certain grade then I will begin again with Spanish. So you have to guess the spanish words. So, say like I give the word fun, you will have to guess the word in a Hangman way except it must be in spanish. So, what about y'all? How long and what you working on right now? Chad.
I've been working on my current project (see my signature) for about 4 months now, and it is the longest project I've ever attempted. It's not completed, yet, but the majority of the engine is done, and I am predicting maybe 1 more month of work until it's completed.
As for my project, it's a flight-action game called Angels 20. It's pretty much an improved, advanced version of the original Wings of Fury. The engine is about 95% done, and all that's really left is making a GUI and content creation (ie. levels , textures).

My Current Project Angels 22 (4E5)
Not inlcuding the months and months of thinking about and kicking around the ideas for a project, my longest project is about one month.
Currently I have not started anything as I am in the 'kicking around' phase right now. But I'm trying to decide on something really simple, where the project will last approximately one month from start to finish. I'm at least trying to get the project divided into discrete milestones where each milestone is a 'finished' project.

My present project is based on my ideas on interactive storytelling, and while this iteration of the project is only about a month old, the ideas are based on my research that I've been doing over the last three years, so I suppose I could call this a three year project (so far; it's more a journey than a destination).
And my project is a sort of story based RPG/Sims/Sim City hybrid (very hard to explain, still in design phase so subject to change), code-named "Project Hamlet" until I settle on a real title (I'm leaning towards "My Beloved Peasant Village", but that's a bit long, maybe that will be a subtitle). Currently slated for a Christmas 2007 release (highly subject to project slippage, good chance it will never be released [grin])

If you count every failed attempt at the same game, I've been on and off trying to create a worthy Master of Magic sequel for quite a few years now. But my latest attempt has been about 2 months part-time.

Some of my Commodore64 projects ("Metal Warrior" games, sideview action/adventures) lasted maybe 9-10 months of active development with crossdev tools, the latest having also many months of getting nothing done inbetween.
Right now I'm collecting ideas for a new iteration of the same kind of game, should be either on the C64 or GBA.

I've been working on my current project since July 22, 2004. I doubt it will be finished soon. Most likely near finished in July 2006 ;P
If you count the number of hours invested instead of months or years, the amount I've put into my project would be a lot more than most people would put into their work within a year.
I'm building a commercial-level respectable game, all alone. A lot of companies with six man teams take as long as I have, or longer.

Last game project I worked on was about two months, current one should be exactly one month, and the next one should be about eight months.

I am also working on a Master of Magic sequel. I've been working at it for about 2 years now. I'm on revision #4 now, each one having progressed further than the last due to everything I learned making the failure before. The last revision included map generation, pathfinding, the beginnings of a terrible GUI, and workable networking.
I hope this or the next revision becomes at least half-playable. I figure it will be 3-4 more revisions until I know enough to make a full game that is release worthy.
