I need to edit the alpha channel in tga pictures. But Photoshop will just let me do it to the parts that are transaparent. Any tools for this? I am planing to use the alpha as a mask of what parts of my background stuff can collide with

You can edit the alpha channel by itself when you select it in the Channels menu (per default on your right, a tab behind layers)
